Clive RFC

The Club was formed in 1888 and since that date has survived temporary disbandment, recesses and conversion to rugby league. During our 110-year history the club has experienced fluctuations in its fortunes both on and off the field

In 1885 the club won its first competition, the Junior Championship, and was awarded an impressive banner, which is still a feature of the clubrooms today.

In 1897 the club acheieved senior status and won the championship that year and also in1898 and1899. In 1897 the club supplied nine players in the Hawkes Bay representative side

In 1911 the members decided to convert to rugby league and later, during the First World War, went into recess.

A resurgence  of rugby in Clive occured during the 1920's but in 1926 the Whakatu Freezing Works strike caused the temporary disbandment of the club until 1928

In 1933, the club experienced another upheavel when the members again decided to convert to rugby league. However, after four years the local league competition collapsed and the Club reverted to rugby union.

Due to many of the members serving overseas in the Second World war, the Club was disbanded in1942 and was reformed in 1946. Since that time the Club has progressed dramatically in both player and members and facilities provided

A highlight of recent years was the celebration held at Easter weekend in 1988, commemorating the Club's centenary

The most recent achievement for the club was the 1994 Maddison Trophy and Nash Cup wins. They then acheived the Maddison Trophy, and Nash Cup double in1999 and 2000
