Tapuae is an old Wairoa club who celebrates their centenary this year, 2005. Tapuae is situated in the small beautiful Northern Hawkes Bay town of Wairoa. Wairoa is situated approximately midway between the Hawkes Bay city of Napier and the Poverty Bay city of Gisborne. The club has its own grounds in Ruataniwha Road with two full sized fields reputed to be among the best in the province, ample parking, a function centre with bar and kitchen facilities and changing rooms with amenities. The Tapuae Rugby Football Club itself is officially part of the Hawkes Bay Rugby Union, but the club chooses to compete in the Poverty Bay Premier competiton. The club also participates in a Wairoa Rugby sub-union competiton affectionally known as the "home round". This year the home round was played at the conclusion of the "premier round". Tapuae are currently Wairoa sub-union champions. Tapuae defeated defending champions Mahia RFC in convincing fashion 27-3 on Saturday 11 September 2004 at Mahia. In the 2004 Poverty Bay Premier competition Tapuae managed a fifth placing.This meant winning the minor championship (bottom four) final. The club has done this for three consectutive years running.
