The New Zealand Rugby Union Appeal Council is to hear an appeal by the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Football Union. The Hawke’s Bay RFU has appealed against the 10-week suspension imposed by a NZRU Judicial Committee on player Clint Newland last week.
Newland knocked out Tialata with a punch during a lineout in their 8-6 upset win over Wellington in Napier on August 4. A New Zealand Rugby Union judicial committee later suspended Newland for 10 weeks until October 20, when the Cup competition ends. Tialata was knocked unconscious and couldn't recall the incident but has since recovered and has started light training to prepare for the World Cup. The NZRU Appeal Council hearing will be held at the NZRU offices in Wellington. The date of the hearing will be confirmed in due course. |
